Feeding and Swallowing

Services are available to assist children with feeding and swallowing difficulties.

Feeding Services

Speech Pathology Services are provided to infants and children with feeding difficulties during admissions to the Special Care Nursery and Paediatric Ward at Frankston Hospital. This service is provided to children with acute feeding issues only.

Feeding Clinic

Speech Pathology Services are provided to infants and children with acute feeding difficulties where close monitoring or support is needed for a short-term period. Consultation with Dietetics and Paediatrics is conducted when necessary. This service is provided out of Frankston Hospital Outpatients 3 (Integrated Health).

Management of acute feeding issues only:

  • Concern for safety of swallow
  • Concern for impact of feeding on growth and nutrition in infants
  • New onset swallow difficulties
  • Follow up post-hospital admissions or support to prevent hospital admissions regarding feeding

Referrals

For feeding services, referrals can be made from any member of the medical, nursing and allied health team.

For our feeding clinic, referrals must be made by your GP, MCHN, Paediatrician or Dietitian, through ACCESS.
