Dr Craig Johnston
MBChB, MRCEM (UK), FCICM, PGCertClinEd
Craig is a junior Intensivist at Peninsula Health. Originally from Northern Ireland, he began training in Emergency Medicine, then moved to Australia in 2014 to pursue Intensive Care training. He is the Education Lead at Frankston Hospital ICU, and is undertaking a Masters of Clinical Education at the University of Melbourne, having completed an Education Fellowship at the Alfred Hospital, as well as the Clinical Educator Incubator Program.
Craig’s other interests include mentoring, communication skills and echocardiography for which he is undertaking a Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound. Outside of work he enjoys being a dog dad to his Golden Retriever Tayto.
Dr Mark Collins
BA(Hons), MBBS, MRCP(UK), FCICM, PGDipMedEd
Mark has recently joined the Peninsula Health team as a junior Intensivist. Having completed his medical degree at Cambridge, he worked as a physician trainee in the UK before moving to Melbourne to pursue Intensive Care training. He completed an Education Fellowship at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, as well as completing a PG Dip in Medical Education. Mark is the quality assurance medical lead within the Frankston ICU team.
Mark’s other interests include qualitative research and Health Economics. He is currently undertaking a Master of Public Health (Health Economics). Outside of work Mark is a keen amateur baker, an avid reader, and a huge rugby union fan.
Prof Ravi Tiruvoipati
Director of Intensive Care Research
MBBS, MS, FRCSEd, MCh, MSc, FCICM, EDIC
Professor Tiruvoipati is a senior Intensivist and the Director of Intensive Care research at Peninsula Health. He completed undergraduate and post graduate surgical training in India and subsequently wrote his surgical fellowship in the United Kingdom. After relocating to Australia, he completed Intensive Care training, and in 2019 completed his PhD Titled “The clinical effects and management of hypercapnia due to acute and chronic respiratory disease in critically ill patients.”
Ravi’s previous research has led to the introduction of two new extracorporeal carbon dioxide removal devices (Hemolung RAS and PrismaLung+) to Australian intensive care practice. His current research interest include: Extracorporeal carbon dioxide removal, Extracorporeal life supports, Sepsis, Respiratory failure, Sleep, Safety and Quality in delivery of health care in critically ill.
A/Prof Andrew Davies
MBBS, FRACP, FCICM
Andrew is a senior intensivist and the Medical Donation specialist at Frankston ICU. After many years participating and leading clinical trials on intensive care interventions, Andrew has transitioned his non-clinical work to healthcare practitioner wellbeing.
Andrew’s other interests include workplace culture, junior doctor mentoring, and education in the mastery of meta-clinical skills including communication, teamwork and clinical leadership. He produces the Mastering Intensive Care podcast and tutors with the mindfulness-based Health Enhancement Program at the Monash University Medical School. Outside of work, he loves running, swimming and spending time with his family.
Dr Claire Michel
BSc (Hons), MSc, MD, FCICM, PGCert CC USS & Echo
Claire is a junior Intensivist at Peninsula Health. Originally from Canada, she worked as researcher within the Queen’s University Cancer Research Institute and the National Cancer Institute of Canada before moving to Australia to pursue training in Intensive Care Medicine. She is the medical lead for the ICU Outreach service and responsible for ALS2 and other simulation-based education within the Frankston ICU.
Claire’s non-clinical interests include trainee mentorship and clinical research. She currently occupies roles in both ANZICS and independent investigator-led multicentre RCTs. Her research interests include adjunctive treatments for vasodilatory shock, Frailty, and initiatives to improve patient-centric care. Outside of medicine she loves spending time with her poorly behaved rescue cat and exploring the World by bicycle.
Dr Sachin Gupta
Deputy Director ICU Frankston Hospital
MBBS, MD, DNB(GenMed), MCRM, FCICM, DDU(CC)
Sachin was trained as a physician in India prior to moving to Australia and completing his fellowship in Intensive Care Medicine. He is the deputy director of the Frankston ICU, as well as the medical lead for the “recognizing and responding to deteriorating patient” clinical care standard. His other roles include supervisor of training (SOT) for CICM trainees and those pursing DDU and EDIC qualifications.
Sachin has an impeccable sense of humour (not the shared opinion of his colleagues) and when not running or reading, in his spare time he can be found in Marvel multiverse.
