General Surgery 3 is one of the four general surgery teams at Peninsula Health and is the home of our breast and endocrine surgery services.
The team is comprised of consultant surgeons, training surgeons and junior medical staff who work closely alongside other healthcare professionals in and out of the hospital, including specialist breast care nurses.
We provide expert assessment and team-based care for patients with breast cancer, tumours of the thyroid/parathyroid/adrenal glands, and a wide range of other conditions. We work closely with our colleagues in oncology, radiation oncology, endocrinology, radiology, plastic & reconstructive surgery and many other disciplines to provide state-of-the-art diagnostic services and treatment for members of our community.
We provide outpatient and surgical services at the Frankston Public Surgical Centre and Frankston Hospital.
We pride ourselves on providing compassionate and holistic surgical care whilst engaging in clinical research and training the next generation of surgeons and other doctors.
Our Specialists
Dr Belinda Hii
Dr Belinda Hii is a specialist endocrine and general surgeon. Dr Hii completed her medical degree at Monash University and then general surgical training through the Alfred Health network. She was awarded her Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in General Surgery in 2019.
Following this Dr Hii undertook further subspecialty fellowship training in endocrine and general surgery through Western Health, Victoria. In 2022 she was appointed the Selwyn Taylor Fellow in Endocrine Surgery at the Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, London, England. She commenced consultant practice in London prior to returning to Melbourne, where she is currently appointed as an endocrine and general surgeon with Alfred and Peninsula Health
Prof Johnathan Serpell
Professor Serpell is the Director of General Surgery and Head of the Breast, Endocrine and General Surgery Unit at The Alfred Hospital, and is a Professor of Surgery at Monash University. Operating as Endocrine Surgeon at Peninsula Health.
Ms Josephine Chitty
Josephine Chitty is a general surgeon at Peninsular Health & The Bays Private Hospital.
Josephine graduated from the University of Melbourne with MBBS in 1996 and completed her FRACS in 2007. She currently has a public appointment with Peninsula Health.
Mr Ross Ferguson
Mr Ross Ferguson is a general surgeon with special interests in breast, bowel, laparoscopicand hernia Surgery.
Graduating from the University of Melbourne in 1983, Ross completed his specialist General Surgery Fellowship in 1992. Ross commenced private practice on the Mornington Peninsula in 1994 and operates regularly at Beleura Private, Peninsula Private, and The Bays Hospitals.
Ross has public appointments with Peninsula Health and Castlemaine Health.
Dr Tristan Leech
Dr Tristan Leech is a consultant surgeon with expertise in the treatment of breast, endocrine and general surgical conditions.
He holds the following positions at Peninsula Health:

- Education Portfolio Lead, Department of Surgery
- Hospital Supervisor of General Surgery Education and Training
- Welfare Officer, Department of Surgery
Dr Leech completed his general surgical training at Alfred Health before undertaking further specialty training at Western Health and Austin Health. Having completed his undergraduate medical studies at the University of Melbourne, he went on to attain a Master of Surgery (Breast Surgery) at the University of Sydney in 2020.
Dr Leech is proud to lead a team of surgeons so dedicated to caring for their patients and working on a better future through participation in clinical research projects and training up-and-coming surgeons and other doctors.

Dr Yuan Tian
Having graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2013, Dr Yuan Tian undertook general surgical training at Alfred Health and was awarded her fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2022.
She then undertook BreastSurgANZ post-fellowship training at Concord Hospital, Sydney and Monash Health, Melbourne.
During her training, she completed Master of Traumatology, University of Newcastle in 2017 and more recently, Master of Advanced Surgery (Breast Surgery), University of Sydney in 2023.
