Agestrong
Agestrong is a group strength and balance program for older people that no longer feel confident to access mainstream classes. It is a supportive program run by trained leaders and supported by health professionals.
Classes run for 45 – 50 minutes and use dumbbells, ankle weights and therabands to work the major muscle groups in the body in an effort to maintain balance and strengthen the muscles we use for everyday activities such as getting out of chair, walking, lifting shopping, etc.
Participants who need chair-based exercises can be accommodated in all classes, some venues offer chair-based only classes.
Agestrong is run in partnership by Peninsula Health, Mornington Peninsula Shire, Frankston City Council, Belgravia Leisure and Langwarrin Community Centre. We offer groups at multiple venues across the catchment, see below our latest group listing:
Agestrong classes
All Agestrong participants must have an assessment with an Exercise Physiologist or Physiotherapist from Peninsula Health who will complete the Physical Activity Medical Assessment. During the assessment, they will ask you about previous injuries and surgeries, health conditions, medications and more. If you have any heart conditions or severe breathlessness, your GP will also need to sign a form to say that you are fit to exercise. The form will be sent to you when you call Access to book in for an assessment.
The Exercise Physiologist or Physiotherapist will then discuss the different exercise options that are available.
If Agestrong is the right class for you, your Physical Activity Medical Assessment form will be sent to us, and you will be contacted get you started in the class.
