Children’s Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists may assist children and their families who are experiencing challenges in their development.

Areas of development

As a child develops, occupational therapists can assist any noticeable delays including;

  • Unusually high or low levels of activity for age
  • Being over or under sensitive to sensory input (e.g. touch, light or noise) in a way that impacts on daily life
  • Delayed fine motor skills, for example:
    • two years old and not using a spoon to feed self
    • three years old and not assisting to dress self
    • in four year old kinder, but not using a consistent hand for fine motor tasks (hand skills), difficulties with drawing, tracing, cutting, or copying
    • in grade prep, and having difficulties with handwriting and/or pencil grip

Who can access this service?

Referrals can be made through ACCESS up to the end of third term of the child’s first prep year.

This service is available across our four community health sites at Frankston, Rosebud, Mornington and Hastings.
