Mr Adrian Pick
Mr Pick graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1983 and was awarded Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Fellowships in General Surgery 1993 and in Cardiothoracic Surgery in 1996.
He then completed, a post graduate fellowships in Cardiovascular surgery and General Thoracic Surgery, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, USA followed by a fellowship at Toronto General Hospital under the mentorship of the pioneering cardiac surgeon Tirone David.
Mr Pick specialises in minimally invasive CARDIAC and THORACIC surgery:
Treating Aortic valve disease via a minimally access right anterior thoracotomy (RATS) or hemi sternotomy. Aortopathy of the Aorta, with procedures such as aortic replacement, David reimplantation valve sparing procedures and debranching procedures for total aortic arch resection and reconstruction.
95% of Mitral valves, are repaired via a minimally invasive approach through a 3-4 cm incision between the ribs which allows for shorter hospitalisation and return to full activity.
Tricuspid valve repair is sometimes performed, as an open procedure (via sternotomy) but more often by limited right anterior thoracotomy on the beating heart.
Coronary artery bypass surgery can be performed on or off pump (without the requirement for cardiopulmonary bypass) or in selected patients via a minimally access left anterior thoracic incision.
These include minimal access aortic mitral and tricuspid valve surgery as well as Hybrid coronary revascularisation and the full spectrum of thoracoscopic procedures.
His area of special interest is the surgical treatment of Atrial Fibrillation. Open concomitant, (in conjunction with other cardiac surgical procedures) and also in conjunction with the electrophysiologist, minimal access hybrid surgery with the totally thoracoscopic maze or convergent procedures. All patients are monitored for 5 years to minimise medications and optimise outcomes.
