About Health Promotion
Health Promotion work focuses on preventing ill-health or injury by taking action to improve the health and wellbeing of the whole population (rather than individuals). The Health Promotion Team works to keep our Frankston and Mornington Peninsula communities healthy and well by enabling the following places to support health and wellbeing:
Education settings
We support the following education settings to implement the Achievement Program:
- Early years services
- Primary schools
- Secondary schools.
Settings can choose to focus on any of the following health priorities based on their specific needs:
- Healthy Eating and Oral Health Tobacco
- Alcohol and Other Drugs
- Sexual Health and Wellbeing (schools only)
- Mental Health and Wellbeing
- Safe Environments
- Sun Protection
- Physical Activity
Activity Based settings
We work with local sporting clubs and leisure centres on the following health priorities:
- Healthy Eating
- Smoke Free
- Inclusion with a focus on the LGBTIQ+ and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Workplaces
We support workplaces to implement the Achievement Program. Workplaces can choose to focus on any of the following health priorities based on their specific needs:
- Physical Activity
- Healthy Eating
- Mental Health and Wellbeing
- Alcohol and Other Drug Use
- Smoking
Liveable Neighbourhoods
We work with many local places/businesses on the following health priorities:
- Healthy Eating
- Smoke Free
- Inclusion with a focus on the LGBTIQ+ and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
The places/businesses we support include:
- Cafés / restaurants / caterers
- Food distribution companies
- Farm gates
- Food trucks
- Shopping centres
- Entertainment venues
The Community Plate is an example of the work we are doing together with our local partners to make local neighbourhoods more liveable.
