Our psychologists can work with you and your child to answer any questions or concerns you may have in your child’s development.

Areas of development

Our Psychologists work closely with children and their families to support emotional wellbeing and development. We offer support in the following areas:

• Parenting – Provide guidance and strategies to support caregivers in their parenting journey.
• Emotional Regulation – Help children and their parents understand and manage big feelings in ways that work for them.
• Understanding Behaviour – Work with families to explore the meaning behind behaviours that may be difficult in different settings, such as home, school, or the community.
• Anxiety and Low Mood – Support children who may feel overwhelmed, withdrawn, or are navigating big emotions like worry or sadness.
• Attachment and Connection– Strengthen the bond between children and their caregivers to build secure, positive relationships.
• Social Confidence and Resilience – Help children build confidence in friendships and social settings, and develop a strong sense of self-worth.
• Transitions and Adjustments – Support children with changes such as starting school or kinder, or managing separation from caregivers
• Sleep – Assist families with sleep routines and challenges in a developmentally appropriate way.
• Toileting – Support children and families with toileting development, tailored to each child’s age and needs

Who can access this service?

The children’s services psychology service is available to children who are presenting with developmental delays. Children can be seen between the ages of 12 months and school entry.

This service is available at Frankston, Hastings, and Rosebud Community Health.

If the child is only presenting with behavioural difficulties, Peninsula Health Counselling services can also be accessed.

How do I access this service?

Access to the service is by referral from a clinician within the children’s services team.
