The $1 million refurbishment of Peninsula Health’s Community Care Unit (CCU) is now complete, with significant renovation works to the nine residential units and administration area of the facility.
“This is fabulous news for Peninsula Health, and in particular our local community who are the beneficiaries of this significant investment,” says Kate Andrews, General Manager, Mental Health and Wellbeing Service.
The CCU is a residential treatment and support service, staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week for people experiencing significant unresolved mental illness and co-existing complex psychosocial challenges.
All of the residential units have all had their interior painted, the kitchens and bathrooms have been updated, new blinds and lights have been installed, as well as air conditioning and ceiling fans. The investment has delivered a significant facelift to the 30-year-old community mental health residential units to ensure Peninsula Health continues to deliver for people in Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula seeking treatment for mental health concerns and substance use challenges.
“The renovations make it feel more homely and comfy for our residents who live here,” explains CCU Nurse Unit Manager Peter Walsh.
“The feedback from the residents is very positive. Community members who come to visit are impressed and staff are extremely pleased we have been able to upgrade the facilities for our residents.”
The refurbishment was funded through the Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs Facilities Renewal Fund in 2020-21. The investment also includes essential upgrades to plumbing, electrical, roofing, and interior spaces, refreshing key facilities like the nursing office, recreational room, and doctor’s office to provide a therapeutic and safe working environment for staff and consumers on their recovery journey.
“We are very grateful for the funds which have allowed us to make important improvements and will enable us to deliver excellent care in a modern and home like setting,” adds Ms Andrews.
