Last year, Year 10 student Rebecca undertook a week of work experience with our health service in Allied Health, where she had the opportunity to explore her strong interest in psychology.
“The best part of this experience was meeting all the different people and seeing the various jobs, because they are all so unique,” Rebecca explained. “However, at this point in my life, I definitely want to be a psychologist. Getting this exposure to the environment and the professionals in it has been invaluable.”
The program offers students like Rebecca the chance to observe and learn about various career pathways in health. During her experience, Rebecca was also given the opportunity to delve into other allied health disciplines such as physiotherapy and orthotics.
After exploring many specialties, Rebecca discovered a newfound interest in neuropsychology.
“Throughout my week, I learned about the different branches of psychology,” she explains. “My mentor, Bridget, is a neuropsychologist, and it was incredible to witness her work. I didn’t even know neuropsychology was a specialty until I started the program.”
Psychology Clinical Educator, Dr Bridget Regan explains what students can look forward to learning about from the program.
“Students can expect exposure to health practitioners, insight into their work, and an understanding of the services we provide here.”
