Advance Statement

  • Under the Mental Health Act 2014, a person has the right to have an Advance Statement.
  • An Advance Statement is written by a person with mental health experiences which details their preferences of treatment and people involved in their care.
  • Writing an Advance Statement gives the person the opportunity to have greater input into their care.
  • An Advance Statement is utilised in the event that a person requires compulsory mental health treatment. Refer to IMHA (Independent Mental Health Advocacy) for further information;
