Smoking and vaping used to be a real concern for the members and supporters of Seaford United Soccer Club. While smoking and vaping at junior club training and events had already been banned as part of state-wide legislation, there were still issues around people smoking at senior matches and functions.
In mid-2024, the Club committee decided to restrict smoking and vaping at senior events to a single designated smoking and vaping area which is located away from clubroom entrances, walkways and main viewing areas. This was done to minimise the harms associated with second-hand smoke and vape aerosol for everyone who attended their events.
To support the transition, Seaford United installed new signage throughout its facilities. This signage serves as a visual reminder of the club’s commitment to promoting a smoke and vape free lifestyle.
The club knows that changing the culture around smoking and vaping in sporting clubs will take time and they continue to address the issue in communications to club members through their WhatsApp channel and the club website.
It is a big step towards Seaford United Soccer Club providing a completely smoke and vape free environment which is a goal that certainly deserves to be celebrated.
