Advancing Colposcopy Care at Bayside Health Peninsula

Colposcopy services on the Mornington P

Colposcopy services play an important role in the prevention of cervical cancer. With increasing demand for this service, expanding the workforce is essential to ensure timely access to care.

Bayside Health Peninsula is pleased to recognise the growing contribution of nurse-led colposcopy services following the completion of advanced nurse colposcopy training by Nurse Practitioner Cathy Halmarick, supported by a scholarship at the Royal Women’s Hospital.

This internationally recognised training combines a comprehensive theoretical program through the International Federation of Cervical Pathology and Colposcopy (IFCPC) with extensive supervised clinical experience.

Currently, there are three Nurse Practitioners in Australia who hold this international qualification, one of whom is Cathy.

Bayside Health Peninsula currently runs a well-established weekly Colposcopy Service. As demand for the service continues to grow, additional clinics will be introduced to ensure wait times remain within recommended guidelines. With Cathy now able to support the service, the team is well placed to meet increasing demand and continue delivering timely care to patients.

Cathy’s completion of this training strengthens the capability of the Sexual and Reproductive Health Hub and supports our health service’s ongoing commitment to providing innovative, accessible and high-quality women’s health care for our community.

To access the Colposcopy Clinic, patients will be referred either through the Sexual & Reproductive Health Hub or by their local GP.
