The Health Promotion team recently welcomed Imogen from Deakin University for her Public Health placement. During her time with us, Imogen worked on a project Ride Her Way, which aims to support, encourage and motivate more women to ride a bike.
As part of this project, Imogen conducted audits of four bike trails across Frankston City and the Mornington Peninsula. This included assessing the accessibility of paths, noting available facilities, and capturing photos and videos to showcase each trail experience. The information collected will be developed into a resource, helping the community discover and enjoy local riding opportunities.
Imogen also assisted in designing a series of motivational messages to inspire more women to get out and ride. These are featured on our Instagram page @a_healthy_peninsula.
We asked Imogen to reflect on her placement experience:
What was your favourite part of the placement?
I really enjoyed my placement with the Bayside Health – Health Promotion team. Being able to apply the knowledge and skills I have developed throughout my studies in a real-world setting was an invaluable experience. It was great to learn and work alongside such a welcoming and knowledgeable team and be able to see the positive impact of health promotion initiatives firsthand.
Which bike trail did you enjoy the most?
I really enjoyed the Hastings Foreshore Reserve as it was an easy and relaxing ride with beautiful views. The mangroves along the foreshore were a highlight, along with the large green open spaces throughout the reserve. It has playgrounds, BBQ areas as well as cafes nearby, it is a great place for a weekend ride and the perfect spot to stop for a coffee afterwards.
