Scooting Towards 2025 at St Mary’s School Hastings

St Mary’s School in Hastings is boosting its active travel initiatives with the donation of two reconditioned scooters from the Men’s Shed Mount Martha. The school has recently received recognition as a Health Promoting School for Physical Activity and Movement through the Achievement Program.

Big smiles will be rolling into St Mary’s School in Hastings this year, thanks to the generous team at the Men’s Shed Mount Martha! The clever crew recently donated two reconditioned scooters to the school, adding an extra boost to their active travel initiatives. The Peninsula Health – Health Promotion Team, Bicycle Network, and St Mary’s have been working together to encourage students to walk, ride, or scoot to and from school. These additional donated scooters help to further this work.

Scooting to school is a fantastic start to the day. It reduces congestion at the school gate and is a whole lot of fun!

This exciting development comes hot on the heels of St Mary’s being recognised as a Health Promoting School for Physical Activity and Movement through the Achievement Program. It’s a well-deserved recognition of their commitment to making physical activity part of everyday.

A huge thank-you to the Men’s Shed Mount Martha for their generosity and hard work in reconditioning the scooters and gifting them to St Mary’s.

If your school community would like support to integrate movement into the day, reach out to the Peninsula Health – Health Promotion team at healthpromotion@phcn.vic.gov.au
