During Celebrating Research week, we’re emphasising the critical role of research at Peninsula Health and recognising the groundbreaking work of our researchers in advancing healthcare.
One individual making a significant impact on the future of research at our health service is Dr Cathleen Aspinall, Peninsula Health’s newly appointed Associate Professor of Nursing and Midwifery Research.
Partially funded by Frankston Hospital’s Pink Ladies Auxiliary, Dr Aspinall’s position focuses on enhancing research capability and capacity within nursing and midwifery in collaboration with Monash University.
“In my exciting new role, I aim to create pathways for nurses and midwives to become research leaders in their fields of practice,” says Dr Aspinall.
“Research is integral to improving patient outcomes and the quality of healthcare. There is an urgent need to enhance research capability and capacity within this workforce to support evidence-based care.”
Dr Aspinall’s goal is to make research exciting, engaging, and everyone’s business at every level, all while working towards improving patient outcomes.
“Health services with a strong research culture report lower mortality rates, higher patient and staff satisfaction, and better organisational performance,” explains Dr Aspinall.
“By supporting, advising, coaching, and mentoring nurses and midwives as they begin, continue, and excel in their research journeys, we can provide the evidence that underpins clinical practice and care at Peninsula Health.”
With the opportunity to engage across the entire organisation, Dr Aspinall will work closely with department leaders, clinical staff, and Monash University students to strengthen research ability and significantly enhance health outcomes for the local community.
