Australia Day honour for a Peninsula Health leader

Marie Garcia manages the Mt. Eliza Aged Care Assessment Service (MEACAS), serving clients across Frankston, the Mornington Peninsula, Casey and Cardinia.

One of our very own has been recognised in today’s Australia Day awards for her contributions to the community.

Congratulations to Marie Garcia on receiving a 2021 Holt Australia Day Award.

Over the past four years, she’s been managing a multi-disciplinary team of 35 staff at our Mt. Eliza Aged Care Assessment Service (MEACAS) – each with diverse backgrounds in administration, nursing, occupational therapy and social work.

“I’ve been a nurse for 28 years across three continents, and this is some of the most challenging, interesting and rewarding work I’ve had the privilege of leading and being involved with,” says Marie.

“We assess the eligibility of clients to access higher level services, such as Commonwealth-funded  Home Care Packages, Residential Aged Care, Residential Respite Care, Transition Care (TCP) and Short Term Restorative Care (STRC).”

Peninsula Health Director of Operations Ruth Azzopardi says the award is a wonderful achievement and duly recognises Marie’s expertise and passion for aged care.

“Peninsula Health is incredibly fortunate to have dedicated clinicians who benefit not only their colleagues, but most importantly our community, every single day.”

“Over her past four years with the health service, Marie’s passion for providing high quality patient centre care in the aged care space has shone through and we’re so proud that she has been recognised for her commitment.”
