This Mother’s Day is especially meaningful for baby Saorise and her mum Maria. Not only is it their very first Mother’s Day together, but they also get to spend it at home as a family.
Born on Friday 1 May at Sandringham Hospital, Saorise was transferred to our Special Care Nursery for a little extra support. After six days in care, she’s now well enough to head home.
“It’s a surprise that we’re going to be home in time for Mother’s Day – it’ll be lovely to be settled in,” explains Maria. “But we’ve been really lucky with the care we’ve had here and we’re so grateful for it.”
Parents Maria and Anthony have also been able to stay close to their newborn, thanks to the new Special Care Nursery overnight rooms.
“We’ve been so lucky to stay,” says Maria. “It has completely changed our experience – we would never have felt comfortable leaving her.”
“It’s also given me the ability and time to establish breastfeeding while she’s here as well.”
Alongside the facilities, the staff have also played a vital role in helping Maria and Anthony settle into parenthood.
“It’s been amazing for us to feel comfortable enough to go to bed, knowing we’re leaving her with people we trust,” says Maria and Anthony.
“The kindness and support they’ve given us as first-time parents, especially in an environment where we didn’t expect to be, has meant so much.”
Saorise has another exciting milestone coming up the day after Mother’s Day, with her grandparents travelling from Ireland to meet her for the very first time.
Congratulations to the new family of three – and to Dad, who is planning to spoil Mum with some present shopping, with help from his new little helper.
