Rehabilitation

 

Peninsula Health provides rehabilitation to people recovering from an illness, injury, surgery and/or hospitalisation. Both inpatient and ambulatory rehabilitation services are available at a number of sites.

Inpatient rehabilitation

Overview

Peninsula Health has two sites for inpatient rehabilitation at Golf Links Road, Frankston (60 beds) and Hillview at Rosebud Hospital (15 beds). Inpatient referrals are managed by the Sub Acute Assessment Services team (see contact details below).

The inpatient unit at Golf Links Road (GLR) has two 30-bed units. GLR1 specialises in stroke, neurological and amputee rehabilitation. The inpatient unit at GLR2 specialises in orthopaedic rehabilitation including rehabilitation following fractures, elective joint replacements and for pain. The Hillview unit sees a mix of all rehabilitation patients and services those who live in the local area. Some patients with special needs (bariatric requirements or a secure facility) are admitted to The Mornington Centre.

Rehabilitation at home

We have two formalised ‘rehabilitation in the home’ programs for Stroke (Stroke detours) and Elective Orthopaedic Joint Replacements (EEOP). Our community rehabilitation teams also provide telehealth and some in-home rehabilitation. Please click here for the ACCESS referral link.

Outpatient specialist medical clinics

Outpatient specialist medical clinics with Rehabilitation Medicine Physicians are held at Golf Links Road and Rosebud Hospital via telehealth. All patients need a valid medical referral to attend these bulk-billing clinics.

Community rehabilitation programs

Overview

The community rehabilitation team provides ambulatory rehabilitation programs on-site at Golf Links Road, The Mornington Centre, Rosebud Hospital and now via telehealth.

A referral can be made here. 

Community programs include a falls and balance clinic, orthopaedic rehabilitation, stroke rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation, rehabilitation for reconditioning following cancer, illness or surgery, amputee rehabilitation (with an on-site prosthetist) and sub-acute pain management. Chronic pain management clinics and programs are held at The Mornington Centre by a dedicated team of pain and rehabilitation physicians and allied health staff.

Pulmonary and Cardiac rehabilitation are conducted through the Frankston Community Programs.
