AORTIC Database Manager
The Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society (ANZICS) Adult Patient Data Base (APD) collects quarterly data submissions from local Intensive Care Unit data bases throughout Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong.
The information Frankston ICU and other ICU units gather in these databases provides information about the individual episodes of care in the ICU. The customised software Frankston ICU uses is AORTIC.
This information is used to calculate the length of the episode in ICU; physiological data of the patient in the first 24hrs in ICU; the risk of death in hospital using Apache and SAPS scoring systems; and the outcome of hospitalisation.
This data is used to benchmark standards of care against comparable units and international standards. It is also used for research and provides accurate data for key performance indicators required by Peninsula Health, The Australian Council of Healthcare Standards (ACHS) and the Centre for Outcome and Resource Evaluation (CORE). The latter two are both arms of ANZICS.
Frankston ICU has a dedicated Data Manager, Laurel Walker, who has been trained in data collection and is solely responsible for the collection of patient data, data submissions, research requests, data base training, audit processes, data cleaning and overall maintenance of the data base.
Any patient data forwarded in electronic submissions to the central body, ANZICS is de-identified in accordance with Privacy legislation.
