Professor John Botha
MBChB, M Med FCP(SA), FRACP, FCICM, DipNeph (London), PG Dip Echo
Prof Botha completed his undergraduate and post graduate training at Stellenbosch University South Africa. He subsequently completed further training at the Hammersmith Hospital in nephrology and a Critical Care fellowship at the Vancouver General Hospital, University of British Columbia. He has been working in Australia since 1996 and has been Director of ICU at Peninsula Health since 1999. He has diverse interests including medical education, nephrology and clinical research. He has been site investigator for numerous pharmaceutical and CTG trials and has published over a wide range of topics including critical care nephrology, sedative practice, ventilation and futility of care. He is an examiner for the College of Intensive Care Medicine and has delivered numerous BASIC and beyond BASIC mechanical ventilation courses.
He is an active member of ANZICS having convened the 2010 ANZICS ASM in Melbourne and was the scientific convenor for the CICM ASM in 2011.He has previously served on the Intensive Care Advisory Committee to DHS and as secretary for the College Victorian State Committee.

Dr Kavi Haji
MB, ChB, FACEM, FCICM, PGDipCC Echo
Staff intensivist, supervisor of training
Kavi has a special interest in ultrasound and echocardiography in critical care, and in teaching. She is currently completing a PhD at the University of Melbourne on the role of ultrasound and echocardiography in critical care. Kavi is an instructor for HeartScan Melbourne University. Kavi is also the course director and instructor for BASIC and Beyond BASIC Mechanical Ventilation courses at Peninsula Health, and is an instructor for Intensive Care for Emergency Medicine course offered through the College of Emergency Medicine, Hong Kong, as well as being and one of the authors of the manual for this course.

Professor Ravindranath Tiruvoipati
MBBS, MS, FRCSEd, MCh, MSc, FCICM, EDIC
Professor Tiruvoipati is a specialist in Intensive Care Medicine. He completed his undergraduate and post graduate surgical training in India. He subsequently wrote his surgical fellowship in the United Kingdom and thereafter was appointed as clinical fellow in the landmark ECMO CESAR trial.
After relocating to Australia he trained in Critical Care at Peninsula Health and the Alfred Hospital. His interest is research and extracorporeal therapies. He has published widely in this area and currently completing his PhD on CO2 and its relevance in the critically ill.

Dr Ashwin Subramaniam
MBBS, MMed, FRACP, FCICM
Dr Subramaniam is a new addition to the Frankston ICU team. He completed his undergraduate training in India. After coming to Australia in 2003, his physician and intensive care training has involved experience in most Victorian hospitals. He has diverse interests including medical education, echocardiography, critical ultrasound, bronchoscopy, resuscitation and clinical research. He has special research interest in nutrition in the critically ill.

Associate Professor Andrew Davies
MBBS, FRACP, FCIC
Andrew Davies recently joined the Peninsula Health Intensive Care Unit team after previously working as a consultant intensivist at the Alfred Hospital for over 15 years where he developed significant clinical experience and interest in organ donation. He also has an appointment an Associate Professor at the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine at Monash University where he assists in the running of several clinical trials in critical care with the Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Research Centre. He has performed clinical research in the field of critical care for 20 years, as a participating investigator in over 50 studies (mostly clinical trials), predominantly in the areas of critical care nutrition, mechanical ventilation and acute lung injury and severe sepsis. He is a past Vice Chair of the Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society Clinical Trials Group (ANZICS-CTG) and a past Chair of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (AuSPEN).
Andrew is also the host of the Mastering Intensive Care podcast, which aims to help and inspire intensive care clinicians to improve the care we give to our patients by providing interesting and thought-provoking conversations with highly respected and experienced clinicians.
