Peninsula Health has a strong commitment to servicing patients from a culturally and linguistically diverse background.
Approximately 2000 interpreter requests were arranged during 2012 and this number continues to grow. For this reason Peninsula Health provides a central Interpreter Booking Service which is available to all consumers.
The centralised interpreter booking service provides a better understanding of the language needs of our consumers as well as the broader community.
The top ten languages requested at Peninsula Health are:
- Mandarin
- Auslan
- Greek
- Italian
- Arabic
- Dari
- Spanish
- Bosnian
- Vietnamese
- Croatian
Accessing an Interpreter
If you have difficulties communicating in English with our staff, you are entitled to a professional interpreter.
The interpreter will be accredited with the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters and provide independent, unbiased, confidential, complete and accurate interpreting.
How to access an Interpreter
The Peninsula Health Interpreter Booking service is coordinated by the Social Work Department at Frankston Hospital during normal office hours. Interpreters are available either for on-site or telephone interpreting for all sites of Peninsula Health and can be booked by staff. If an interpreter is required outside of normal business hours, please advise the Manager in charge of the ward/department.
