With the predication of a big flu season ahead, we spoke with our Head of Infectious Diseases and Infection Prevention and Control Unit, Dr Marjoree Sehu, to delve deeper into to why it’s so important for people to get vaccinated against Influenza this flu season.
“After being in lockdown for the best part of two years, Melbourne has only recently opened up, from a social point-of-view. In the last two years, we have seen almost no Influenza due to physical distancing and hard lockdowns. However, we are now beginning to see Influenza infections within our community, as well as other respiratory illnesses.
“As many of us haven’t been exposed to the Influenza virus in recent years, our baseline immunity has decreased. This year, in particular, it’s extremely important people get vaccinated against the Influenza virus.”
You can get your flu vaccine from your local health practitioner or pharmacist.
