Today, Peninsula Health acknowledges International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). It is an extremely significant day within the LGBTIQA+ community — and beyond — as it acknowledges when the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from the Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems in 1990. At that point, homosexuality was no longer considered a medical condition or diagnosis, but was accepted as an aspect of human diversity that was normal, natural and healthy.
Peninsula Health recognises the unfair and difficult path LGBTIQA+ people have, and continue to face, in order to be regarded as equals in society. We are proud of all LGBTIQA+ employees, patients and community members.
If you feel strongly about providing a safe and inclusive culture for the LGBTIQA+ community, then our LGBTIQA+ Community Advisory Group might be for you.
The LGBTIQA+ Community Advisory Group provides an avenue for consumer and community perspectives, experiences and concerns, assuring that the needs of the community are met. It is a space to share information, have robust discussions and help implement inclusive practices and protocols here at Peninsula Health.
If you would like to join our LGBTIQA+ Community Advisory Group, contact Michelle Daniel, Consumer Participation Program Manager on 03 9784 2665 or email consumerparticipation@phcn.vic.gov.au
