The Flinders District Lions Club and Australia Lions Foundation generously donated $71,000 to help rejuvenate the Flinders ward garden at The Mornington Centre, which was officially unveiled on Monday 17 April. The sensory garden aims to help our staff deliver great care and aid the health and wellbeing of our patients living with cognitive impairment and dementia.
Designed specifically to support people with changed behaviour, the garden will provide patients with a stimulating and sensory space that can reduce confusion, stress and irritation.
Head of Unit, Geriatric Medicine Dr Anjali Khushu says, “the interactive garden is designed to create an environment to reduce behavioural symptoms associated with dementia and contribute to the quality of life of people with dementia. It is an important support tool for patient families and the staff at the Mornington Centre and we thank the Lions club for their generous donation towards the project”.
The Mornington Centre is a purpose-built 90 bed geriatric evaluation and management facility, providing a full range of specialist medical, nursing, and allied health services for geriatric community members.
