Congratulations to the Mental Health Community Care Unit

The Peninsula Health Mental Health Community Care Unit was awarded the 2022 Tandem Service Clinical Award for outstanding relational care.

“Our Community Care Unit provides client-centred care that is based on the principles of recovery, putting the person at the centre of all their decision-making about their life in the least restrictive way possible,” says Bronwyn Lawman, Peninsula Health Mental Health Operations Director. “The service focuses on the clients’ goals for their life, such as getting a job, a license or a new accommodation for the future.”

The Tandem Awards are awarded to people and services who have significantly improved the experience of family, carers and supporters of people in the Victorian mental health system. The Service Clinical Award recognises mental health services that demonstrate compassion and family-inclusive practice.

Peninsula Health Community Care Unit Nurse Unit Manager, Peter Walsh, says that the Community Care Unit staff exemplify the values and strengths of Peninsula Health. “The staff are very committed to delivering care and support in a way that is kind and humane,” explains Peter. “Too often, families and carers carry an enormous burden and it is gratifying to think that our team is mindful of this and it is reflected in our approach to care.”

“Staff really make a difference in the lives of the people that they work with,” adds Brownyn.

Congratulations to the Mental Health Community Care Unit for receiving this award.

“I am very proud of the Community Care Unit team receiving the award,” says Peter. “It reflects our efforts to run a family/carer sensitive service.”
