When and how to refer
Women who require Emergency Treatment
- Haemodynamically unstable/requiring fluid resuscitation
- Heavy PV bleeding – more than two soaked sanitary pads in an hour or less
- Severe Hyperemesis
- Severe abdominal pain – not resolved by oral analgesia
- Eclampsia
- Likely ectopic pregnancy
- Non-obstertric medical or surgical emergencies
- Gynaecology emergencies
- DVT/Pulmonary Embolus
- Serious Infections Disease Exposure
- Infection or partial dehiscence of perineum or abdominal wound not responding after one week of antibiotic therapy
- Mastitis not responding to antibiotic therapy

- >16w and any amount of PV bleeding
- Pre-eclampsia or suspected preeclampsia

- Anti D (sensitising events only) if management plan not clear

Non-emergency Specialist Obstetric Consultation
- FGR – fundal height more than 2cm below dates or slowing in fundal height growth trajectory
- R/v and management of abnormal results
- R/v of patients who may no longer be suitable for Share Care
- Anti D (sensitising events only) urgent referral if antibody positive – see Anti-D Pathway in the community clinical practice guideline
- Routine 34-36 weeks obstetric check
- Fetal Diagnostic Service (see referral form Outpatients – Women’s Health and Antenatal Clinics)
