Accreditation – Becoming a GP Shared Maternity Care Affiliate at Peninsula Health
Accreditation
Online applications are currently available for you to become part of the Peninsula Health Shared Maternity Care Program.
GPs wishing to become a Shared Maternity Care Affiliate should email DRule@phcn.vic.gov.au for the personal link for an application, communication, and support.
You will be asked to provide the following information for Accreditation
- General Practice qualifications
- Postgraduate Obstetric qualification ie DRANZCOG or Women’s Health Certificate
- Evidence of recent Shared Maternity Care experience if qualification older than five years
- GPs without these qualifications but with significant recent obstetric clinical experience can still apply to become part of the program. Supervised antenatal clinic visits may be required.
- Curriculum Vitae with evidence of at least three months obstetric training
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development in pregnancy care, pre-pregnancy care, postnatal period or neonatal care in the last three years.
- APHRA registration
- Certificate of current medical indemnity insurance
- Two referees, preferably at least one with Obstetric experience
Reaccreditation – continuing medical education, supervised clinic sessions, cross accreditation facility
Reaccreditation
Reaccreditation of all Shared Maternity Care Affiliates is a triennial process. A personal link to the online reaccreditation form will automatically be sent to GPs in October 2025, prior to the end of the current triennium in December 2025. If you have become a Shared Maternity Care provider within 12 months of the end of the triennium you will automatically be reaccredited.
Peninsula Health provides local educational meetings that attract pregnancy Continuing Professional Development points.
You will be asked to provide the following information for Reaccreditation
- Evidence of five hours of Continuing Professional Development in pregnancy care, pre-pregnancy care, postnatal period and neonatal care in the last three years
- APHRA registration
- Certificate of current indemnity insurance
Cross accreditation
GPs who are accredited with a Shared Maternity Care program with another Victorian health service will not need to provide evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
You will be asked to provide the following information for cross accreditation
- Certificate of Shared Maternity Care accreditation with another healthcare service
- APHRA registration
- Certificate of current indemnity insurance
Peninsula Health Shared Maternity Care Program Committee
The Shared Maternity Care Committee meets monthly.
Purpose/Functions
The purpose of the Peninsula Health Shared Maternity Care Program Committee is to oversee the running of the program. The committee will have direct responsibility over the following functions,
- Approval/rejection of Shared Maternity Care Affiliate (SMCA) accreditation/re-accreditation applications
- Running of the SMC program
- Delivering educational and networking opportunities for SMCA
Affiliates can contact the committee via the GP Liaison Unit.
