Perioperative Nursing Postgraduate Program

Designed with a broad range of clinical experiences that enable you to develop and learn a diverse set of skills, our Perioperative Postgraduate Program provides a multitude of opportunities to work with a network of educators and preceptors with vast experience in the perioperative environment.

General information

The program includes:

  • University support for completion of postgraduate degree
  • Part time employment of 63 hours per fortnight
  • Annual leave, professional development leave, study leave and exam leave benefits are available
  • Employment across a rotational roster at both Frankston Hospital  and Frankston Public Surgical Centre  (FPSC) operating suites

Support

We support our postgraduates’ development through a team of excellent educators and support services;

  • Extensive support from perioperative clinical educators and clinical support nurses
  • Senior support from NUM/ANUM’s and clinical nurse specialists
  • On-the-job training and supported by online learning modules and additional resources
  • Participation in a combined critical care study day to provide additional learning opportunities and to work collaboratively within the critical care environments
  • Participation in a perioperative study day to provide additional learning specific to the operating suite environment
  • All formal assessments and hurdles (set by the university) are completed by the perioperative education team

Areas available for rotation

The program is designed to provide a variety of rotations to consolidate your nursing skills. Rotations will take place at Peninsula Health sites; Frankston Hospital and Frankston Public Surgical Centre.

Rotations throughout the year are carefully structured by the perioperative education team to ensure the most is gained from your postgraduate program.
