Perioperative Nursing Postgraduate Program

Designed with a broad range of clinical experiences that enable you to develop and learn a diverse set of skills, our Perioperative Postgraduate Program provides a multitude of opportunities to work with a network of educators and preceptors with vast experience in the perioperative environment.

General information

The program includes:

  • Freedom of choice when selecting the university for completion of postgraduate degree
  • Choice of working hours including full time or part time employment dependent on available EFT (minimum requirement is six (6) days per fortnight)
  • Annual leave, professional development leave, study leave, and exam leave benefits are available
  • Positions available at both Frankston Hospital and Frankston Public Surgical Centre (FPSC) operating suites

Support

We support our postgraduates’ development through a team of excellent educators and support services;

  • Extensive support from perioperative clinical educators and clinical support nurses
  • Senior support from NUM/ANUM’s and clinical nurse specialists
  • On-the-job training and supported by online learning modules and additional resources
  • Scheduled study days to provide additional learning opportunities
  • All formal assessments and hurdles, set by the university, are completed by the perioperative education team

Areas available for rotation

The program is designed to provide a variety of rotations to consolidate your nursing skills. Rotations will take place at Peninsula Health sites, Frankston Hospital and Frankston Public Surgical Centre.

Rotations throughout the year are carefully structured by the perioperative education team to ensure the most is gained from your postgraduate program.

University Partnerships

The program is delivered by our educational partners Monash University, LaTrobe University and Deakin University.

Partnerships

Monash University: Graduate Certificate of Advanced Clinical Nursing (perioperative nursing)

LaTrobe University: Graduate Diploma in Nursing (Perioperative practices). Students have the option to exit with the Graduate Certificate in Nursing or Graduate Diploma in Nursing, dependent on credit points completed.

Deakin University: Graduate Certificate of Perioperative Nursing, Graduate Certificate of Intraoperative Nursing, Graduate Certificate of Perianaesthesia Nursing.
