Monash University Peninsula Clinical School

Monash University Peninsula Clinical School (PCS) coordinates teaching for medical students at a number of Peninsula Health sites and general practice clinics in a structured clinical teaching program.  The program covers the final three clinical years of the five year Doctor of Medicine (MD) course.

Each year over 200 medical students receive instruction through medical rotations that include emergency medicine, psychiatry, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, surgery, aged care, medicine and intensive care each year through the Peninsula Clinical School.

Emphasis within the program is based on patient centred bedside skills as well as the required background and theoretical medical knowledge which is delivered via a range of teaching tools. Access to the latest in research and development advances in medicine is available, with these cohesive elements acting together within a challenging and supportive learning environment.

Non-Monash University Elective Students

A limited number of elective placements are available to students in their final year of study of a MD or equivalent degree in medicine. Places are available to students who are in an equivalent clinical year in their own medical school and have had appropriate clinical experience or where there is a current reciprocal arrangement between Monash University and their home medical school and the applicant is at a comparable year of training. Students will undertake their elective placement under the supervision of a Consultant or Senior Registrar.  Please contact pcs.admin@monash.edu for more information.

Why study at Peninsula Health?

Our program has a strong emphasis on clinical experience encouraging a hands on approach to learning.  We also focus on patient centred care which is emulated by the Peninsula Health staff who actively involve students on placement.

Peninsula Health has a patient population with diverse spectrum of illness from a broad demographic that spans the continuum of health care.  Our growing research program welcomes engagement by medical students with some high quality publications coming from their efforts.
