Peninsula Health’s newly appointed Board Chair joins the organisation with vast experience in the Victorian health sector, where he has shared his expertise in governance structures, policies, implementing risk management strategies and commercial issues.
Since his appointment, Michael Gorton AM has visited various sites across the organisation to interact with and witness the great work being done by our people.
“I’ve been overwhelmed by the friendliness of the organisation and the warm culture across the various hospitals and sites. I’ve had the opportunity to see first-hand the great work being done by individuals and teams at Peninsula Health — I’m staggered by the cooperation and the way people work together,” says Michael.
As Board Chair, Michael will work alongside our Board of Directors to oversee the work of our health service, sharing responsibility with the Executive Team to review the significant operations of the organisation, measuring its performance, quality and safety, people and culture and finances.
Michael was most recently the Board Chair at Alfred Health, and is also a former Board member of Melbourne Health, Ambulance Victoria, and the Australian College for Emergency Medicine. He is the former Chair of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and was also Chair of the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission.
In addition to his Peninsula Health appointment, Michael is President of the Board of Directors at Wellways Australia, Chair of Holmesglen Institute of TAFE and was also recently appointed to the Board of Latrobe Regional Hospital. He is an Honorary Fellow of both the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, and the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.
