Mapping out a future for Rosebud Hospital

Peninsula Health has shared the findings of the recently completed Feasibility Study for Rosebud Hospital with the local community at two public meetings in September.

Around 150 people gathered in the Rosebud Memorial Hall to hear Chief Executive, Felicity Topp, alongside representatives from the architectural firm Billard Leece, explain what the findings mean for any potential future redevelopment.

“The study shows that it is feasible to re-build Rosebud Hospital on the same site, incorporating all the requirements of the Master Plan which we released earlier this year,” said Ms Topp.

“While there is no funding commitment to re-build Rosebud Hospital at this time,” added Ms Topp. “It is incumbent on us that we investigate all our options on the existing site before any business case is put forward for consideration of funding.”

Ms Topp and Billard Leece Director, Mark Mitchell, conveyed to the gathered group of local community and business representatives, that the Feasibility Study showed a staged redevelopment would be possible on the existing site.

“A potential stage one of the proposal could see a new section of the hospital constructed on land at the front of the existing site,” explained Ms Topp. “When completed, this would allow for the main section of the existing hospital to be demolished, with sufficient car parking space created.”

Subsequent stages could see further sections built and replaced with new constructions, which include the possibility of moving Community Health to another site or incorporating it at the existing location, if there is funding available.

Considerable work around potential traffic management has also been completed, including looking at improving the access to and from the hospital from Point Nepean Road and lessening traffic loads currently using the rear access on Braidwood Avenue.

The Civil Engineering team would provide appropriate solutions for a rebuilt Rosebud Hospital, with regards to the potential for rising sea levels and the water table. Any new approved construction would have suitable elevation to alleviate the problem and would be consistent with State Government building guidelines at the time of construction.
