A: 17 enjoyable years.
Q: What is your background?
A: I started my nursing career at Mildura Base Hospital in 1983 as a State Enrolled Nurse for many years. During those year I was employed at country hospitals. In 1986 I started nursing at the Royal Melbourne. In 1990, I had the opportunity to go to college to become a Registered Nurse. My graduate year was at Monash Medical Centre and it was there an opening become available for a part time Stomal Therapy Nurse. I completed the Stomal therapy course in 1996. Opportunity knocked again – I was lucky to be employed by Peninsula Health.
Q: What does a typical day in your role involve?
A: I work Monday to Friday. Several times a week I start at 6:30am to see patients prior to their surgery. I spend the rest of the day either reviewing new patients, educating staff or keeping current with the latest evidence based research.
Q: What do like best about your job?
A: Everything, especially the patients and the wonderful staff I have contact with.
Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Peninsula Health?
A: The people I work with make my day. Everyone is helpful and welcoming.
Q: What do you like to do when you’re not working?
A: Walking my dog, crosswords, reading and travel.
