Local classic car enthusiasts raise funds for Rosebud Hospital

More than 180 classic car enthusiasts came together in Tyabb to catch up, talk cars and raise money for Rosebud Hospital.

“We’re just a group of fellows who enjoy each other’s company and cars,” says Peter Bennett, from the Peninsula Boys Car Enthusiasts.

“Because we’re all getting old codgers down here a few of our blokes have had to use the service which is why we decided to raise money for our local hospital.”

“We’re very fortunate to have a facility like Rosebud Hospital on the Peninsula and we just want to give as much money as we can to it.”

The Peninsula Boys Car Enthusiasts has raised more than $20,000 for Rosebud Hospital over the years, including their recent donation of $2,500

At their flagship event of year on 27 February there were classic cars lined up as far as the eye could see, as well as a BBQ, Shonky Joe’s famous raffle and a special presentation by UK University Professor and vintage racing driver Mac Hulbert.

As well as supporting the hospital, Peter says the group members are also a great support to each other.

“Some compare our group to a Men’s Shed on wheels.”

“A lot of fellows here have had unhappy experiences in marriage, others have lost their partners and it gives them a chance to get out and enjoy what they do – mucking around with cars and driving them.”

The local Real Estate agent has been involved with the group for 12 years. Locals may have spotted him in his yellow MG driving around the streets of Dromana.

You too can support Rosebud Hospital by making a donation online today.
