Careers at Peninsula Health: Q&A with Erin Robinson

Name: Erin Robinson

Job: Emergency Department Nurse and Walker Ward Nurse

Location: Rosebud Hospital

What does a typical day/shift in your role involve?

I work across the General Medicine Ward and Emergency Department (ED) at Rosebud Hospital – therefore each day is as different and challenging as the next. One day I can be helping people with general health care as part of a diverse team of nursing, medical and allied health staff, in the hope of getting patients back to a healthy status where they are able to go home. Another day I can be working with a great medical and nursing team in providing potentially lifesaving emergency health.

What do like best about your job?

In Nursing, especially hospital based, we often see people and their families on some of their worst days. It’s a privilege to be able to make even a small difference to their experience in what is often a frightening and stressful time.

What has been one highlight/ memorable moment working at Rosebud Hospital?

It is so hard to choose as every day is so different – I guess either my first shift as the In Charge Nurse, or my first trauma case in ED would have to be the most memorable. Sometimes just getting through the day during the busy Christmas/Easter period when we can see more than 100 people in a nine bed department can be fairly remarkable.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

While I’m not at work I like taking our puppy for a walk along the beach, doing house renovations, snowboarding, spending time with friends and family and watching local sports.

Help us to provide nurses like Erin with the best possible equipment by attending the 2017 Rosebud Hospital Benefit Dinner on 6 May. Tickets are still available
