31 new Interns join Peninsula Health

Finishing university and starting a new job is an exciting time for any new graduate. It will be especially exciting for Peninsula Health’s newest group of graduates who begin their careers as doctors.

In their first year as professional doctors, the Interns will complete rotations within Frankston and Rosebud Hospitals, and at other sites such as The Mornington Centre and Golf Links Road Rehabilitation Centre.

Of the 31 new doctors, 22 are women and 9 are men. The group is an increase of 3 from the 28 doctors who completed internships at Peninsula Health last year.

“In an exceptionally competitive marketplace, we are delighted these young men and women have taken up appointments at Peninsula Health to begin their careers,” said Dr Peter Bradford, Peninsula Health Executive Director Medical, Frankston Acute Care and Quality.

“Many of these new doctors have completed student rotations at Peninsula Health whilst undergoing studies at Monash University. We are also being joined by doctors who have studied at Melbourne University and three from overseas,” Dr Bradford.

Their rotations include Emergency, Surgery and Medicine which are completed at Frankston and Rosebud Hospitals. There are other non-compulsory rotations including Rehabilitation, Aged Care and Psychiatry.

“One Intern will also undertake a new country rotation at Wonthaggi Hospital and Medical Centre where they will experience a country GP environment,” he added. “This is in addition to rotations at Rosebud and at Warragul”.

Once they have completed their internships, the doctors can undertake specialist training in their field of interest. Of the 28 doctors who undertook internships in 2007, 14 have taken up second year positions as resident medical officers with Peninsula Health.
