The Primary Mental Health Service is a regionally integrated function of The Community Liaison Early intervention And Recovery Service (CLEARS). It is a service aimed to enhance the skills and interest of General Practitioners and other Primary Care providers in treating people with mental health disorders, in particular depression and anxiety through:
• Primary consultation- non-urgent assessment, diagnosis, and treatment recommendations through one-off non-urgent assessments in the GP surgery or at the Mental Health Service
• Secondary telephone consultations between a GP and a Psychiatrist regarding medication issues
• Education and training to GPs and other Primary Care Providers to enhance the recognition and treatment of mental health problems
• Assisting GPs in the early detection and treatment of ‘at risk mental state’ and first episode psychosis
Geographical Area Covered:
• Catchments of the Shire of Mornington Peninsula and the City of Frankston (excluding Langwarrin and Carrum Downs) and part of the city of Kingston
