For immediate assessment of mental health concerns attendance at Frankston Hospital Emergency Department is required.
Target Group
• 16-25 year olds, living in Peninsula Health Mental Health Service catchment area who present with symptoms of serious mental health concerns and/or co-occurring drug and alcohol problems or who have been unable or have difficulty accessing Primary and Enhanced Primary Health options.
The Youth Community Mental Health Team is a multidisciplinary team that works with young people experiencing an acute or severe mental health problem living in the catchment area. The team provides comprehensive assessment and treatment planning with young people, their families and other services involved. Treatment options are flexible and can occur at community based clinics, in the home or via another service provider’s location. Length of treatment or engagement can vary, based on the young person’s needs.
Services Offered
• Primary & Secondary consultation
• Non urgent assessment (urgent assessment in the community provided by the Adult Mental Health Program)
• Case co-ordination via Mental Health Clinician
• Evidence informed treatments (ie. For Early Psychosis, Dual Diagnosis, Family interventions, and psychosocial groups).
• Focus on engagement and flexible treatment options targeted at Youth (ie. Via clinic, home visits or at local youth sites).
Primary Mental Health Service for GPs and other Primary Care Providers
The Primary Mental Health Service is a regionally integrated function of The Youth Mental Health Team. It is a service aimed to enhance the skills and interest of General Practitioners and other Primary Care Providers in treating people up to the age of 25 years with mental health disorders, in particular depression and anxiety, through primary consultation, secondary consultation and education. Another of the Primary Mental Health functions is to facilitate the early detection and treatment of ‘at risk mental state’ and first episode psychosis.
Peninsula Headspace
Peninsula Headspace is a youth service for anyone aged between 12 and 25 years. It provides low or cost free youth specific and youth friendly services for mild to moderate problems:
• Depressed or anxious mood
• Not coping at school
• Sleeping too much or too little
• Finding it hard to concentrate
• Drug or alcohol abuse
• Being bullied, hurt or sexually harassed
