About
Peninsula Mental Health Service employs a Mental Health Consumer Consultant to provide consumer support, including liaison, advocacy and linkage with other services. The Consumer Consultant works in the inpatient units, the Community Care Units and with those residing in the community.
The role of the Consumer Consultant is:
- To uphold the dignity and rights of consumers at all times while respecting privacy and confidentiality
- Ensuring the Consumer perspective is represented
- To assist Consumers to access appropriate Services
- Consumer advocacy and support
- Education, training and orientation of staff, graduates and students on the Consumer experience
- Development of specific programs to improve Consumer well-being
- To work collaboratively with other local support groups
- Public speaking to promote understanding and awareness of mental health issues
- Involvement in Service planning and Policy development
- Complaints management
- Distributing surveys to improve service response to Consumer needs
