About Carer Consultant
Peninsula Mental Health Service employs a Carer Consultant to provide carer support, including advocacy, accessing other services, involvement in the Peninsula Carer Council and collaboration with local support groups.
The role of the Carer Consultant is:
- To uphold the dignity and rights of families and carers at all times while respecting privacy and confidentiality
- Ensuring the Carer perspective is represented
- To assist families to access appropriate services
- Carer advocacy and support
- Education, training and orientation of staff, graduates and students regarding the Carer perspective
- Development of specific programs to support Carers and reduce “burnout”
- To work collaboratively with other local Carer support groups
- Involvement in Service planning and Policy development
- Public speaking to promote understanding and awareness of caring for people with mental health issues
- Distributing surveys to improve service response to Carer needs
- To work with the Peninsula Carer Council to improve service provision for Carers
