About Carer Consultant

Peninsula Mental Health Service employs a Carer Consultant to provide carer support, including advocacy, accessing other services, involvement in the Peninsula Carer Council and collaboration with local support groups.

The role of the Carer Consultant is:

  • To uphold the dignity and rights of families and carers at all times while respecting privacy and confidentiality
  • Ensuring the Carer perspective is represented
  • To assist families to access appropriate services
  • Carer advocacy and support
  • Education, training and orientation of staff, graduates and students regarding the Carer perspective
  • Development of specific programs to support Carers and reduce “burnout”
  • To work collaboratively with other local Carer support groups
  • Involvement in Service planning and Policy development
  • Public speaking to promote understanding and awareness of caring for people with mental health issues
  • Distributing surveys to improve service response to Carer needs
  • To work with the Peninsula Carer Council to improve service provision for Carers
