About Respiratory Services

The Department of Respiratory Medicine has two main areas of research interest – lung disease and sleep related breathing disorders. In addition, the Department takes an active role in quality assurance activities. Patients suffering sleep disordered breathing are referred to the Sleep Laboratory where they are monitored overnight.

The Sleep Laboratory

The sleep laboratory in the Frankston Integrated Health Centre is a three bed, fully computerised laboratory which performs more than 700 sleep studies each year. The sleep aboratory aids in the diagnosis and treatment of people with sleep disordered breathing, such as obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA).

The Lung Function Laboratory

The lung function laboratory offers measurement of lung volumes and capacities, flow-rates, bronchial hyper-reactiveness, allergy testing, hypoxia-altitude simulation test, exercise walking tests (for evaluation of home oxygen) and cardiopulmonary exercise testing. More than 3,000 tests are performed each year at Frankston and Rosebud.

Electroencephalogram Service (EEG)

Peninsula Health has an EEG service for the management of patients with epilepsy. The service is co-located with the Sleep Lab in the Integrated Health Centre next to Frankston Hospital.

EEGs will be reported by the Neurology Department at Monash Medical Centre.

All patients will be bulk billed. To book ring (03) 9784 7050.
