The Frankston Hospital Intensive Care Unit is relocating to a state-of-the-art purpose-built facility with 13 beds in the second semester of 2010.

The new unit will provide a light filled environment for delivering high quality patient care. The design principles will improve patient safety and staff well-being. The ICU has soothing textures, selected to create the appropriate indoor environment.

The patient cubicles will be fitted with pendants and I-glass which in its normal form is clear and transparent but when an electric current is passed through it becomes opaque.

There will be well planned non clinical areas, with a large relative’s waiting room and interview room. A dedicated education room will provide an area for ongoing staff development.

The proximity of the new ICU to the redeveloped recovery room and theatre complex should enhance patient flow and interdisciplinary research opportunities.
