The Peninsula Health, Human Research and Ethics Committee (HREC) consists of members of the Board, Community and Health Professions. The purpose of the Committee is to ensure that all research for which Peninsula Health is responsible is reviewed and monitored in accordance with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research issued by the National Health and Medical Research Council in 2007.
Meetings are held monthly to consider research projects submitted for approval. The review process considers the ethical and methodological issues of the proposed research, with assistance provided by the Methods Review Panel and Drugs and Therapeutics Committee, where appropriate.
Clinical Ethical issues are dealt with by the Clinical Ethics Sub-Committee.
The members of the Committee give generously of their time to consider the applications, and to provide advice to researchers in order to ensure that all research approved is both scientifically and ethically sound.
Information on how to apply for Human Research and Ethics Committee approval can be found using the links below or by contacting the staff of Research Program. Please note that a consideration fee applies for some applications reviewed by the Committee.
