Social Inclusion Working Group Needs Assessment Report
The needs assessment report draws on information from a variety of sources to further clarify where FMPPCP member agencies should be focusing their actions in relation to Social Inclusion and in particular in working towards the goal of ‘People feel connected and have a sense of belonging to the wider community’.
Conducting the needs assessment developed as an initial scoping exercise for the FMPPCP Social Inclusion Working Group (SIWG) due to the varying understandings of what social inclusion meant to individuals, agencies/organisations, government etc., and therefore uncertainty about how best to deliver health promotion activities/action. The SIWG adopted a framework for identifying need that had been developed by one of the member agencies (Peninsula Health – Community Health) which incorporated the following dimensions of need:
- Normative need: those defined by an expert.
- Felt need: those defined by the community or a community of interest
- Expressed need: those expressed through statistics/demand for services
- Comparative need: differences between population groups
The findings from our needs assessment have led to the development of several major FMPPCP initiatives, which focus on mental health promotion and community transport/mobility access.
