Parking Changes for Frankston Hospital

An unprecedented building boom at Frankston Hospital is holding up traffic, with temporary changes in place around the entrance.

Peninsula Operations Director Planning and Infrastructure Di Collins said a number of major building works are currently underway which will impact on the available car spaces.

“In addition to the $45 million hospital expansion which will be completed by the end of this year, there are four major projects about to start. These are the $8 million new maternity ward and special care nursery, the Peninsula Clinical School, major renovations to the Mental Health area and resurfacing of the Dundas Street car park.” Ms Collins said.

To assist patients and visitors accessing the hospital a temporary drop off bay, with seats, has been constructed out the front of the undercroft entrance.

“During the day hospital volunteers will assist in guiding people into the hospital, and explaining the new traffic changes. Wearing reflective vests, the volunteers will work in pairs, and additional security staff will also be on hand to assist.”

Emergency ambulance access is unchanged; however non Emergency ambulance will have two new designated areas. “We have been working closely with ambulance personnel to ensure their support during these changes,” Ms Collins said.

There are also changes to traffic flow with the Hastings Street entrance now oneway, and those entering from Yuille street unable to park directly in front of the hospital.

“Where possible we encourage people to allow extra time before their appointment as parking is very limited during the construction process. We also ask motorists to take special care around the hospital.”

Ms Collins explained that upcoming asphalting of the Dundas street car park will also temporarily reduce car spaces, but ultimately will improve parking conditions.

“Please bear with us,” Ms Collins added.
